A few years back, a friend of mine, who was involved with The Arc of Essex at the time, asked if I would be interested in volunteering my time to take some photos at an event they were holding. Several years and events later, the Arc of Essex now has a special place in my heart.
On Saturday, April 28th, the 20th Annual Building Tomorrows 5K Run, Family Walk, and Fun Fest was held at The Clipper Pavilion in Essex County's South Mountain Recreation Complex in West Orange. This year, more than 700 children, adults, and families came to participate.
The 5K Run was a USATF sanctioned 500 Point Grand Prix race on a flat, scenic course around a beautiful lake. Following the run a Fun Fest was held for all ages complete with live music, activities, food, and more! All funds raised will help The Arc of Essex County's mission of helping children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities participate in every level of society to enjoy fuller, more independent lives.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the organization, like I was, The Arc of Essex County provides comprehensive services and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families ensuring a lifetime of achievement with dignity and full partnership in the community.
